G’day welcome to Spring…

…the perfect time to head to Outback New South Wales which is featured in this edition. I get a lot of people stop me on the street and say “your show is called ‘Sydney Weekender’, how come you’re going to the Outback?” I’m here to tell you that you can do the Outback in a weekend – jump on a REX flight to Broken Hill, spend a night in luxury, eat some fine food, hop on a tour, see the real Outback, and still make it home in time for work on Monday.

So it is possible but I reckon you’re short changing yourself. To get the real experience I recommend at least a week, that way you can hook up with two of my great friends, Mick & Jo McCulkin from Tri State Safaris. No one knows the Outback like these guys and there is no better way to do the Outback then with Tri State Safaris. A swag of state and national tourism awards that they’ve won backs me up.

I took the four day corner country tour which includes a visit to the opal fields at White Cliffs. This luna landscape and the stories of the hardships in the early days of opal mining will stay with me forever. And sleeping 20 metres below the surface in the Underground Motel is as unique as the Outback characters we met along the way.

On a tour with Mick & Jo there’s plenty of time to stop and smell the wildflowers. The vastness and solitude of Big Sky Country where red dirt meets blue horizon will stay with you long after you return to normal life. I guess what I’m saying is Outback New South Wales is a very special life changing experience and one you should get a piece of.

Last issue’s subscription prize winner is Karen Nunn of Eagle Vale and she’ll be working the Momo with 19 of her mates in a Mini Grand Prix at Eastern Creek Karts. Congratulations Karen!

Happy reading. Bring on the warm weather. I’ll see you on TV, of course, every Saturday at 5.30pm.

Best wishes,

Mike
